JOSEPH BREGLIA (FM-85)

Graduate of SUNY Maritime College – Ft. Schuyler Class of 80 - President of Student Council and Water Buffalo member.  Vessel Operator for Sealand, USLines & Training Ship Empire State 80-85; Came ashore late in 1984 as Assistant Port Engineer for Sealand Service serving in New York/New Jersey 1984-1989; Served as Port Engineer for Sealand Service in Tocoma, WA 1989-1995; Returned to New York/New Jersey as Port Engineer for Sealand –1995-1999; Supervisory Port Engineer Sealand Service 1999, Currently serving as Senior Port Engineer for CSXLines LLC.

 

WILLIAM CADDEN (FM-91)

Graduated from the Calhoon MEBA Engineering School in 1982.  Presently holding an Unlimited Chief Engineer’s License – Steam and Motor.  Sailed as an Operating Engineer with various shipping companies from 1982-1993.  Worked as a Port Engineer for SeaLand Service from 1993 to 1999, when the International Liner portion of SeaLand was sold by CSX to Maersk Line.  Presently working as a Port Engineer for United States Ship Management.  Joined the Society in 1991, and have been a Member  of the Board of Directors since 1995, Chairman of the Steering Committee and Co-Chair of the Papers and Technical Committee.

 

CHARLES MUNSCH (FM –89)

’73 Graduate of SUNY Maritime Academy and M.S. Stevens Institute of Technology.  License in First Assistant Engineering.  Appointed Chairman, Engineering Dept. SUNY, Fort Schuyler 1995 – 2001.  Sailed from 1973 on various vessels; including Eng. Officer on T.S. Empire State.  Worked from ’77 – present for various naval architectural firms, shipping companies, and ship managers as Eng. Consultant, Port Engineer and Naval Architect.  Member of the Board of Directors since 1998.

 

EUGENE TESORIERO (FM-69)

Sailed with Texaco.  Working for the American Bureau of Shipping since 1977.  Has been a member of the Board of Directors for SMPE since 1977.  Served as SMPE Chairman of the Board and President 1998 to present.

 

SERGIO ANTONINI (FM-81)

1961 Graduate Merchant Marine Academy-Trieste, Italy.

Chief Engineer License Unlimited Steam/Diesel, 1969.  Sailed with Italian Line, Esso International, Home Lines Inc. until June 1980.  March 1981 to present employed by American Bureau of Shipping; currently Senior Surveyor-ISM/ISO Lead Auditor.  SMPE Board of Directors Member since 1999.

 

HENK VAN HEMMEN (FM – 78)

Graduate of the Marine Academy of Rotterdam;  Dutch Marine Engineers license steam and diesel; Sailed with Holland-America Lines as a Superintendent Engineer.  Served with United States Salvage Association as underwriter’s surveyor in Europe and the United States.  Later, Vice-President and Chief Surveyor in New York.  Marine Consultant with Francis A. Martin & Ottaway, Inc. since 1980.   Now President and Owner of Martin, Ottaway, Van Hemmen & Dolan, Inc.  Member of SMPE Board of Directors since 1991.

 

ERNY OTTERSPOOR (FM – 77)

Erny Otterspoor is Vice-President of Mormac Marine Enterprises and Special Projects at Marine Transport Lines, a Crowley Company.  He currently oversees nine Marad RRF vessels under the MME flag and special projects at MTL, which operates over 20 commercial vessels.  Erny is a 1974 B.E.-N.A. graduate of NY Maritime College. He worked as an ABS surveyor in NY, and both sailed and port Engineered for Farrell Lines, joining Mormac in 1979, acquired by MTL in 2000, acquired by Crowley in 2001. He has been a Member since 1977, an active Board Member for three years, and Co-chairman of the Dinner Dance Committee.

 

MICHAEL E. FORD (FM – 66)

BS (Marine Engineering) USMMA Kings Point, 1960; MBA 9Int’l Business) Bernard M. Branch College, CUNY, 1979.  Sailed on license for Alcoa Steamship Company and then ashore for same company in the Engineering Department. Later with National Bulk Carriers as M&R Supervisor, Puerto Rico Marine Mgt., Inc. as Supt. Engineer,

Ocean Service Corp. as V.P Marine.  Currently V.P. of Marine Design & Operations, Inc., Roselle, NJ.  Maintain active license as Chief Engineer Steam and 3rd Motor unlimited, Issue #10.  Full member SMPE since 1966.

 

WILLIAM F. YOUNG (FM – 96)

Born and raised in Astoria, Oregon.  Attended Kings Point and graduated with Honors in 1977. Sailed as licensed engineer aboard containerships, LNG carriers, tankers and breakbulk vessels, raising license to Chief Engineer.  Employed as Port Engineer for El

Paso LNG, US Navy, Repair Superintendent for General Engineering of San Francisco and Port Engineer for Sea-Land Service.  Currently employed as Senior Port Engineer for USSM, the operator of 19 vessels that are the international portion of Sea-Land Service that was purchased by AP Moeller in 1999.  Responsible for directing 6 Port Engineers in managing the repair and drydocking of the USSM fleet engaged in international trade. 

 

CHARLES MUNSCH (FM-89)

CHARLES HOETZL (FM-74)

Graduate of SUNY Maritime College, ’66 BE Marine Engineering – ’73 MS Transportation.  Committed to the marine industry for over thirty years; sailed as licensed engineer, taught at SUNY Maritime College, worked as Technical Assistant –

Texaco Inc. and sales manager for Hudson Engineering, Ashland Chemical and Parmatic Filter Corp.  Worked as US Representative for Aalborg Industries Inc. Currently employed by Goltens New York Corp. as Sales Executive.  Served on SMPE Board of Directors in both elected and appointed positions since 1975.

 

ROBERT “FRITZ” CUNNINGHAM (AM-1973)

Graduate of University of Pittsburgh and Northeastern University School of Engineering.  Employed as Senior Engineer for Bethlehem Steel Shipbuilding, Bath Iron Works Corp. and National Bulk Carriers Universe Tank Ships. U.S. Navy Engineering and Ordinance Officer.  Multi-State professional Engineering Licenses along with Steering System Worldwide Patents.  President, Cunningham Marine Corp. since 1977.  Member of SMPE since 1973 and member of SNAME.  Member of Board of Directors since 1996 and Chairman of Retention Committee, Co-Chairman Journal Committee.

 

STEPHEN R. BURAK (AM-76)

Member of SMPE since 1976.  1975 graduate of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, B.S. in Marine Engineering.  Past President of the Kings Point Alumni Association of Central New Jersey.  Employed by Drew Marine Division of Ashland Chemical as Fuel Technology product Manager.  Previous technical and marketing employment at ABB Turbocharger Co., ITT Mackay Marine, Nalffleet Bull & Roberts and Norfolk Shipbuilding.

 

ROBERT D. FERRIE (AM-90)

More than 27 years of broad experience in the fields of finance, administration and executive management in the marine industry.  Since 1996 employed as Vice President of Union Dry Dock & Repair Company in Hoboken. From 1984 to 1996 served with Ferguson Propeller, Inc. including from 1991 on as President.  Before 1984, worked for 9 years with Hudson Engineering and associated ship repair companies as Vice President, Finance.  From 1973 to 1976 as Senior Accountant for Price Waterhouse in New York, serving on audit staff for clients, including Universe Tankships & National Bulk Carriers.  Served as Trustee Director of the Hoboken No. Hudson YMCA since 1994, including three years as President of the Board and currently as Treasurer.  Earned BS in Business & Economics from Lehigh University in 1973, and completed 27 credits of graduate work in Marine Transportation Management at SUNY Maritime.

 

JACK FINNEGAN (AM – 76)

1969 GRADUATE OF us Merchant Marine Academy, BS in Marine Engineering.  Past VP Kings Point Alumni Association, Long Island Chapter.  Jack returned to the New York area in October 1999 following a tour at Newport News Shipbuilding, VA, where

he was employed as Director of Marketing for Newport News, Global.  Previously he was US Manager of Spare Parts Marketing and Sales with New Sulzer Diesel in Savannah, GA and managed the New Jersey-based Magnus-Maritec for several years.  Currently employed by Drew Marine Division of Ashland Chemical as Manager, New Business Development, with additional direct responsibility for Fire, Safety and Rescue, Sealing products and Engineered Products and Services.

 

MICHAEL C. NAHON (AM – 1993)

Sailed for Getty Oil in Engine Department 1971, 72, 73. Employed for last 20 years at Maritime Power Corporation.  Currently Vice-President of Engineering.  Responsible

for all aspects of Engineering and Sales of steam, diesel & gas turbine equipment for commercial and military customers worldwide.
