WHY BELONG TO SMPE SMPE is a Professional Organization "to develop a cooperative spirit and friendship among members, to be of mutual assistance to each other and to promote and protect the interests and welfare of the American Merchant Marine".
Since it's founding in 1946, members have supported each other's interests and relied on each other to share solutions to technical problems and pass on the information to others in our field.
Membership is open to persons involved in the maritime industries and meeting all the requirements outlined in the Societies By-Laws.
The Society offers contact with all areas of the industry by interaction within the membership itself, monthly technical meetings, a yearly forum, this web sight and social gatherings such as a golf outing and dinner dance. In addition all members are able to apply for student loans through our Scholarship program. COST Student membership is free, and there is no application or initiation fee. Student membership attendance at all society events and meetings is subsidized at a reduced cost. |
WHO SHOULD JOIN Students of engineering interested in pursuing a maritime career at sea or ashore. MONTHLY TECHNICAL MEETINGS The Society supports technical education through sponsorship of technical papers applicable to the Marine Industry and our annual industry forum. Often these papers are sponsored jointly with other organizations like SNAME and IME.
SOCIAL EVENTS Social events like our annual Dinner Dance, Golf Outing and other family oriented affairs help bring members and their families closer together to improve relationships and friendships

This application must be counter signed by an engineering teacher or professional at your school, or a SMPE member. There is no Student Membership Initiation Fee or annual dues fee. If you wish to convert to full or associate membership upon graduation, the regular initiation fee will be waived.
