MINUTES
FIRST IMPROMPTU MEETING
The first meeting-of the Port Engineers -was held at the Whitehall club at noon on April 23rd., 1946, for the purpose of discussing the formation of the Society of Port Engineers of the Port of New York.
Those in attendance were:
Mr. F. W. Smith., American Mail Line (San Francisco) and Vice President of the Port Engineers of California.
Mr. C. N. Guckert, Seas Shipping Company and MEMBER of the San Francisco society of Port Engineers.
Mr. H. S. Cable, Isthmian Steamship Company
Mr. O. H. Waller, Lykes Bros. Steamship Company
Mr. Conrad Spatz, Lykes Bros. Steamship Company
Mr. S. Statter, Mississippi Shipping Company
Mr. R. C. Hartmann., Moore-McCormack Lines
Mr. R. E. O'Neil, Standard Oil Company of New Jersey
Mr. Harlan Scott., The LOG
Mr. Wm. Richards, The Dampney Company of America
It was motioned, seconded and passed that Mr. Conrad Spatz would preside as Temporary Chairman and Mr. O. H. Waller as Assistant Temporary Chairman.
It was agreed that notices be forwarded in the form of a letter to all active Port Engineers in the metropolitan area of New York, notifying them that on Wednesday evening, May 15, 1946, a Meeting would be held at 7:00 P.M. wherever designated.
The following Port Engineers were contacted and invited to attend this first meeting but were unable to be present., account of business pressure:-
Mr. L. L. Watts, Superintending Engineer for Alcoa Steamship Co.
He commented that he is for the formation of the Society 100%.Mr. S. Andrews, Operating Manager for American Export Lines,
who expressed a desire to support the Society.Mr. F. W. Gaines, Superintending Engineer for Tankers, Inc., -
had to attend a drydocking but was eager to know the results of the meeting as he was much interested.Mr. Ray Fisher, Head of M&R for Standard Oil Company of New Jersey,
Had a previous engagement but stated he was 100% behind this movement.Mr. Frank Hanson, Socony-Vacuum Oil Company (unable to contact him).
Mr. Pat West, Marine Transport Company (unable to contact him).
Mr. J. V. Mucahy, Seas Shipping Company (out of town).
